LOCAL FISHING REPORT JANUARY 16TH, 2019 Capt Phi Dyer Awestruck Fishing Charter

Local Fishing Report January 16th, 2019: Inshore fishing has been good so far in 2019. The first week of January had warm weather and warm water which produced a great snook bite. Several trips started with fishing for sheep head, black drum, redfish, and occasional flounder. Redfish are unavailable for Harvest, so they were all released, but folks enjoyed their strong fight, and kept some of the others, to take home for dinner. We had some good spotted sea trout bites as well, then with the water temperature rising above 70°, we had to take advantage of targeting snook for a finale. We fished with whitebait and the snook did not disappoint! With explosions on the surface, multiple jumps, strong fast runs, and several multiple hookups, this was a great way to finish a trip.
The cold fronts chilled the water down for the second week of January and getting relief from the north wind played a role in where we anchored, but it didn’t stop the fish from eating. Although the snook bite slowed down, they were still being caught, and redfish, sheephead, nice size sea trout, and black drum are finding it hard to turn down a partial shrimp on a jig head or a live shrimp. Fishing structure will increase your odds with colder water.
